I followed Rick's Extreme Pre-Contest diet while competing in 2008 and it helped me get in great shape. Learning that I could eat so many great tasting foods and good fats while still losing weight made dieting much easier. Thanks Rick.

While getting ready for the 2008 WTF Las Vegas show, Rick's diet really kept my energy levels high while I rapidly lost body fat. It's the best diet I have ever followed and I was really pleased with the results. It's so easy and full of flavor that I can still follow it while off season from competing.

For the first time ever I was able to diet without wanting to kill everyone. Rick's dieting principles made me much less irritable and gave me more energy than the previous ways that I tried before.

| I was just starting as the host of a show on ESPN2 called, Outdoor PlayGround, and I had 4 weeks to get in my best shape. I consulted with Rick and started learning about things like protein, portions, water and of course fiber as key elements. I was choosing foods and reading labels like never before. That was the educational part, which you have to expect from Rick. I‘ve known Rick for almost 20 years and during most of it he’s been studying holistic nutrition and body building while talking stunning photo’s along the way. Rick was using words like stevia, almond butter and flax seed long before other people I know were saying them.
In all seriousness, if you respect someone’s advice, you take it. I did and I followed Rick’s recommendations about meals, changed the format of reps in my workout and listened about the true value of “raw” foods. Rick gave me great knowledge and direction ... and I needed it. I was going to be shirtless along side professional athletes half my age, and I didn’t want to look like a tub of butter. Thanks Rick! Why Achieving Good Health Is Essential for Genuine Weight Loss As I revealed earlier, we’ve got the weight loss scenario backwards: You see, you can't lose weight to get healthy because you must become healthy first in order to lose weight, and this is the prime objective of the Fitness Model Diet. Of course I am referring to genuine weight loss, not the glamorized crap being packaged and sold to us in countless, advertisements, infomercials, and popular television shows. These diets do produce weight loss, but this is short-term management and ultimately leads to the yo-yo dieting syndrome. Diets based on losing weight without establishing a true foundation of health have nothing to do with creating long-term weight loss or vitality. Why Staying at Extremely Low Body Fat Levels Is NOT Healthy Why My Extreme Pre-Contest Diet Is the Only Tool You Need to Get as Lean as Possible One of the biggest reasons I was compelled to develop a diet like this was because there was such a lack of knowledge in creating an effective diet that took genuine health needs into consideration. Let’s face it, most diets revolve strictly around the “calories in and calories out” mentality and leave out one huge & vital component; NUTRITION! I realized a long time ago that if you want to learn how to change your body, there is no better person to consult than a competitive bodybuilder because no one knows how to change body composition more effectively than a bodybuilder. And fortunately for me I had access to some of the best bodybuilders in the world when I worked with magazines and companies like Muscle & Fitness, MuscleMag Int., Muscular Development, and Muscle Media 2000, Gold’s Gym, and MetRx, etc. There is no doubt that standard bodybuilding methods work, but at what cost was always my concern. To understand how to become healthier, I began to consult some of the top nutritionists in the world. I read book after book from both conventional and holistic practitioners, attended lecture after lecture, and spent 4 years earning a masters of science in holistic nutrition to fully understand what creates genuine vitality & health. The amount of information and misinformation available to the public is staggering and it’s taken me quite a long time to sift through the pieces of this enormous health puzzle and put it together in a way that makes logical sense. As I learned more about the human body and how it worked I realized that I could refine the general methods used in bodybuilding by making much smarter choices. In fact, during my studies I became quite fascinated by the bodybuilders of the 1930s - 1950s for a very important reason; they had NO access to either supplements or steroids because they didn’t exist yet. This was significant because it meant that these guys had to rely solely on sound nutrition and exercise to achieve their remarkable results. Without supplements or steroids this special era of bodybuilding produced impressive physiques by any standard of time. The physiques of Jack Lallane, Vince Gronda, Steve Reeves, Armand Tanny, and John Grimek are timeless in aesthetics and muscular development. At 96 Lalanne finally passed away and proved you can still function quite well in old age; a true testament to his lifestyle choices. The bodybuilders of this time were part of an underground movement referred to as the Physical Culture, and they came to rely on innovative theories and ideas from a handful of nutritional pioneers of that time like Dr. Weston A. Price, Dr. Francis Pottenger, Dr. William Kelley, and Dr. Roger Williams, to name a few. The bodybuilders of that era acted like a collective think-tank driven by their passion to make greater gains. They were renegades charting unknown territory and were led by radical experimentation, logic, and most importantly; the TRUTH. What I find most fascinating about this movement was that they quickly learned to ignore the conventional nutritional advice that was already bending to the pressures of big business and corporate greed. The Physical Culture realized that only a body in its healthiest state would allow for greater muscular gains. They wisely followed the blue prints left by the nutritional pioneers of their time and strictly avoided all processed foods, white flour products, and refined sugars. Instead they indulged in raw, whole foods, large amounts of fat, and natural animal products that included organ meat, raw dairy products and eggs. |
